Summer is my favorite season. Sun, heat, sea, pool, and vacation! There is nothing better than enjoying this period with family, friends and, of course, myself. I like to use cheerful clothes, bet on a beautiful makeup and, of course, a well-groomed hair can be a great way to start off the happiest season of the year. However, especially regarding our hair, the care should be specific, since it doesn’t like the sea, sun, heat, and pool as much as we do. Hair needs more attention, exactly on the hottest days of the year.
The hair becomes drier, and brittle in the summer, as it loses a lot of water and protein, a situation that no woman on the planet likes to go through.
But then, how to avoid the negative effects of the summer and keep our hair moisturized, silky, soft and glowing? Keep an eye on the tips we are going to show you and find out what you should do to keep your hair beautiful during the summer!
Why is hair care essential during the summer?
Dryness, brittle and very dehydrated hair are some of the effects of the external agents, such as stronger sunlight and abundant heat, perhaps factors that lead us to go more and more to a beach or a swimming pool.
The UVA and UVB rays present in sunlight stimulate the loss of Keratin, the proteins that the entire capillary structure is made of, causing them to lose their color and become extremely dry. Also, if sun exposure is exaggerated, the scalp can be damaged, causing dandruff problems.
Beyond it, the strongest wind in this period may embarrass the hair, causing knots that are difficult to brush and, therefore, causing the hair to break.
The salt and chlorine present in the sea water and the swimming pools cause the cuticles to open and, as a result, penetrate the hair fiber, leaving the hair with no shine. The effect is caused because both, salt and chlorine remove all the water from the hair, making it dry, frizzy and lifeless.
In the case you have dyed hair or any other type of chemistry, the result can be even worse since chlorine and salt can remove the dye from the wires and leave them with a greenish color.
Essential Tips For Hair Care During The Summer
Now that you know what effects the external agents can have on your hair over the summer, it’s time for you to know the best tips to take care of your hair in this time of the year and prevent the hair from losing its life.
1. Always use a leave-in hair treatment
This is one of the essential products that you should always have in your bag to avoid those problems we listed above. The leave-in has the role of creating a protective layer on your hair, which is perfect for this season.
In this case, you should use it right after bathing, from length to tips, especially if you are leaving home. In addition to avoiding dryness, you can leave your hair more hydrated.
2. Wash your hair after the beach or pool
Whenever you leave the pool or sea, rinse your hair and remove any debris, such as chlorine and salt, among others that can damage and dry your hair.
Use a shampoo and conditioner specific to your hair type.
3. Use hair sunscreen
During the summer, it is essential to use the sunscreen to protect the skin but also to protect your hair. Using hair sunscreen will protect it from all the aggression caused by sun, heat, sea, swimming pool, among others. You should always apply it before you leave the house.
4. Make weekly hydration
If weekly hydration were necessary to maintain the health of the hair in the other seasons of the year, in the summer, they could not be missing at all.
The tip of the experts is, about a month before going to the beach, intensify the treatment of the hair every week at home, always using super moisturizing and strengthening masks.
5. Wear hats
The use of these accessories can significantly help protect your hair while you are exposed to the sun. The hat protects the scalp, the root of the hair, and in some cases the face, and the neck. On the beach this protection is very important and in some cases indispensable. However, it is not advisable to stay for an extended period with hats, as they can drown the scalp and prevent the hair follicles from “breathing,” causing root weakening and hair loss.
6. Keep your hair always clean
During the hottest days of the year, it is common for us to sweat more. So always wash your hair and avoid leaving it dirty, as dirt can cause inflammation, itching, and even dandruff.
In this post, you will learn how to wash your hair.
7. Avoid chemicals
As you have read throughout this article, hair tends to become drier and at this time of the year, as aggression from outside agents is greater, such as wind, sun, heat, sea, pool, etc. So, the experts’ tip is to avoid using chemicals, such as dyes and straighteners.
8. Do not tie your hair too often
We know that the hottest days of the year are harder to handle with loose hair, especially when it is longer. But tying it too often, especially when the hair is wet – right after the pool or sea – can weaken the hair root and cause hair loss or damage its structure.
