After the baby is born, it is time for the woman to return to the commitment to her own body and beauty. However, hormones do not always work in our favor, and hair is the most affected after pregnancy.
After months of gestation, finally with the baby with in our hands, it is time to enjoy the new phase and take care of the little one. For some moms, however, rescuing beauty is not such a simple task. The hair shafts, for example, are the ones that suffer most from body changes in the postpartum period and may present specific problems, such as hair loss.
It is good to understand what affects the hair and what treatments are allowed. It is not because the baby is born that you are free to abuse the chemical procedures. Caution is the watchword. But, nothing to discourage.
During The Nine Months
The hair cycle has three phases: anagen, catagen, and telogen.
Due to hormonal changes, during pregnancy, the catagen period is prolonged. In other words, the hair rest, remain beautiful and without falling out. In the gestational period, most women get their hair even better than before they became pregnant because of hormone.
Your Hair After The Pregnancy
The problem is that, 2 to 4 months after giving birth, the hair may begin to fall, due to hormonal re-adjustment and the end of the stabilization phase mentioned earlier. Not infrequently, the woman faces a process we call postpartum telogen effluvium, in which all the hair that was born and grew during pregnancy falls at once.
The process is natural and tends to normalize around the 6th month. And it is worth mentioning that the fall has nothing to do with breastfeeding.
However, if the problem persists after the 8th month, or if there is a significant change in hair shape or texture, it is necessary to seek a trichologist (specialized in hair recovery) to investigate and resolve any clinical problem that may be behind the imbalance. This is because gestation can trigger some diseases, whose symptoms may include hair loss. This is the case of androgenetic alopecia, autoimmune diseases, postpartum depression, thyroid disorders, nutritional dysfunctions, among others.
In this post, we talk a little bit more about postpartum hair loss!
There is also a common habit of moms to tie their hair to perform their new tasks that baby care requires. This is quite harmful, as it promotes hair pulling, causing a condition called alopecia. Unlike the postpartum hair loss, this case is irreversible, the hair does not grow again.
Treatments
It is important to remember that any aesthetic or clinical procedure, during pregnancy and postpartum, must be authorized by the doctor accompanying the woman, since each case differs from another in terms of indication. But, let’s go ahead with some excellent suggestions, chosen by experts, and guidelines on what can and can’t be done.
Allowed
We recommend the non-toxic procedures, such as the use of astringents (for oily hair), anti-frizz, regenerative masks, and leave-in products. The more natural the ingredients contained in cosmetic products (coconut oil, oats, an extract of white roses, rosemary, sage, and others), the safer the use. Treatments with keratin (cauterization, keratinization) are also harmless. To prevent breakage, we suggest moisturizing.
Reinforcement on the plate
A diet rich in protein, calcium, iron, zinc and B-complex vitamins (B5 and B6 mainly), during and after pregnancy, is essential for hair health and to minimize the postpartum fall effect. In the list of foods that contemplate these nutrients, are beef, liver, fish, chicken, eggs, soy, vegetables, beer yeast, vegetables. It is important to emphasize that it is essential to manage sugar and fat, as well as drinking 6 to 8 glasses of water per day.
With some restriction
Dyes and straightening can only be performed after the 6th month of gestation and with the approval of the obstetrician. Even so, they should be avoided. Another alternative that can be prescribed by the doctor to decrease the severity of the hair loss is vitamin supplements. Permanent dyes (those involving discoloration) should be discussed with the obstetrician.
Prohibitions
Never perform any chemical procedures if there is a history of allergy to any component of the formula. It is also contraindicated to undergo two hair treatments simultaneously.

Hair Loss After Pregnancy Supplements
Some supplements are great for helping to curb hair loss, and some of them are:
Pantogar
This supplement is rich in vitamins, keratin and cystine which stimulates the growth of hair strands and nails, as well as treats the fall effectively. It can be used during the lactation period.
Vitamin D
Many people suffer from baldness due to a lack of nutrients in the body.
Several studies indicate the relationship between Vitamin D and capillary restructuring. It is also known that Vitamin D can decrease hair fall by increasing the resistance of the scalp and thus preventing the hair from breaking or falling out.
Very recent studies have also indicated a strong relationship of vitamin D deficiency in the body and a dermatological disease known as Alopecia Areata, which causes baldness and hair loss.
In any case, it is essential to consult a doctor before taking vitamin supplements, as their excess may be detrimental to your health.
In addition to vitamins, using specific shampoos and conditioners to stop hair loss is also very important, and it is recommended to use reliable brands such as Klorane, Vichy, Loréal Expert or Kérastase.
